Clean Cities Sweep at the Navy Yard

April 24, 2007

Fifteen members of the Navy Yard community participated in last Friday’s Clean Cities Sweep at the Navy Yard. Among our many accomplishments were weeding, replanting and mulching beds at the entrance “gates,” 11 Storehouse Row and 10 Storehouse Row; and picking up roadside litter and debris along Noisette Blvd and at the intersection of McMillan and Spruill Avenues.
Thanks to our gardener Joan and Vernon’s landscape crew, we used all native plant species in our beds and mulched with clippings from regular landscape maintenance around the Navy Yard. Joan even constructed the bamboo trellises in the “gate” beds from a bamboo stand off Noisette Blvd! The place looked great for Saturday morning’s Green Village Tour 5K run/walk, hosted by the Sustainability Institute.

Additionally, we found out today that the Navy Yard at Noisette won the First Place in the Business Category for North Charleston’s Clean Cities Sweep. Congrats to everyone who was involved! Below are some images of the work done and the folks doing it.
