“There’s a special kind of reunion that is occurring more and more. It’s the kind where blacks and whites reach across the racial divide to explore a shared history, no matter what the relationships among their ancestors were.”

Those are the first lines of Wevonneda Minis’ story in this morning’s Post and Courier about the Noisette Family Reunion taking place this weekend (August 22 – 24) in North Charleston. I really encourage you to read the rest of the article to learn more about this family. Find it here.

The painting by Andrea Hazel is of a Noisette Blush Rose, the same kind that are planted in the entry planters at McMillan Avenue and on Noisette Blvd near Virgina Ave.

The public is invited to the dedication of a Noisette Rose garden at the Navy Yard- the new garden is tucked in a quiet, reflective place near the dead house and the entrance to Riverfront Park. The Noisette Company wanted to commemorate this very special reunion and the legacy of Phillipe Noisette in a place that everyone can enjoy. If you’re not able to make the dedication today at 11:30 (it’s at 10 Storehouse Row if it’s raining), please stop by on another day to enjoy the roses.
