Mystery Spot Revealed

January 4, 2010

This mystery spot must have been a tough one!  This particular spot is part of  series of structures located in the West Yard. Most easily recognized by the large tombstone like structures, the West Yard was primarily a storage yard for Steel, Coal, Gravel and Sand. This structure is an elevated rail line that would allow transport cars to empty their loads,  which would fall onto the triangular part. This odd shaped structure separates the load to either side of the trestle . Each type of material had its own storage spot in the yard, where it would wait to be distributed as need across the entire Navy Yard.
